Tab options in One Sheet

Good Afternoon!

I was curious to know if SS offered something similar to Excels "Sheet Tabs".  For Example, instead of jumping back and forth to different Smartsheets, is it possible to jump back and forth without ever really leaving the page you're working on ? Please see the attached file for a better understanding of my question!

Thank you :)

This is not currently possible in Smartsheets. I recommend setting your bookmark bar to include links to all of the sheets you use most and then use right-click on the bookmark bar folder to open all of the sheets at once.

  • You can also pin your favorite worksheets to the left hand menu bar and then right click on the two items you want open at the same time and they will open (each sheet) in a separate tab.

    Smartsheet did away with Tabs:

Why has Smartsheet shifted away from having tabs in the app?

Based on extensive customer research, we determined that the new navigation menu and direct links can offer customers a better navigation experience. Here are some examples:

    • In the past you could only view ~4-10 tabs on your screen at the same time. The new navigation menu will give you constant access to up to 20 of your most recently viewed items in a more intuitive list, and you’ll be able to pin items to the top of that list as needed.
    • Favorites will move from the Home screen to the navigation menu for quicker access.
    • Direct links will make it easier to bookmark and share your Smartsheet items.

If you use only a few Smartsheet items at a time and want to recreate the tab experience, you can:

    • Access your sheets at all times in the recents list of the navigation menu.
    • Bookmark the items in your browser and add them to your bookmarks bar.

The old sheet tabs worked well for me when only a few sheets were opened. but trying to maintain 100+ active projects was a nightmare. I had so many tabs opened that I couldn't find anything and new tabs always opened to the far right and at the bottom of the hidden drop down.  I'm still trying to figure out a good way to work with the new UI.  I'll say it still feels like a beta but I do think that the new UI has more potential to evolve into something better. For now I'm getting along with using 4 different browsers to keep a more controlled view of project files (Firefox for project A, Chrome for project B, IE for project C and Vivaldi for project D).  Throw in windows 10 multiple desktops and its helps even more.  Ultimately I think the UI can be tweaked to better manage "project" views which is something that I think excel multiple sheets does for small projects but that also doesn't scale up well.

    Hi all,

I'm using an add-on for Chrome called Toby in combination with the bookmark bar like Mike described above.

Toby is excellent but only available on Chrome.

    Happy to share! wink

I've seen you've referenced another and I might try that out.

Let me know what you think about Toby compared to the other one you're using.

Yeah, in Chrome you can create folders. So I created a folder with all the smartsheet tabs I need... then I can right-click on the folder and it will open all the tabs - I can even have them open in a new window.

Yes, I do that as well, but I thought I saw that you shared a Chrome plugin (maybe I'm confusing you with someone else)?
