Cell Linking not working
Good Afternoon,
I have a report which collates all monthly figures from each Months Tab, and links them into a Detailed Yearly Report for my figures. This is starting from 2018, but ive got down to March 2019 and now the Linking doesn't appear to work. No matter how I do it, the link doesn't show inside my column.
Is there something stopping this? are you only allowed a certain amount of links per sheet?

I cannot remember exactly what the limits are, but there are most definitely limits to how many cells can be linked from other sheets. However, it really doesn't look like you would have hit those limits already. Are you using a formula or directly linking to another sheet?

Hi Andy,
I agree with Paul, and if you've had reached any limit, there should be an error message.
More info:
- You can create links of up to 500 cells from the same source sheet at a time and can have a total of 5,000 inbound links in a destination sheet.

Hope that helps!
Have a fantastic week!

Hi,
It helps to know I can do upto 500 Cell Links, but the Cell Linking I am doing when clicking on the Paperclip in the Toolbar is not working on my sheet.
Paul,
What is the formula to link Cells from different Sheets?
-
Happy to help!
What happens when you click on the Paperclip? What browser are you using?

Andrée

For the paperclip issue, Andree is probably a better one to speak to.
As to the formula... It isn't necessarily a specific formula that is used to link, but when you are typing a formula there is an option to "reference another sheet" in the formula help box.

Hi,
clicking on the paperclip loads up another window which allows me to select another sheet from within Smartsheet. I then click on the sheet I require which loads up the data in the Window. I then click on the cell I want to link. Once I click on create link, it takes me back to my sheet, but doesn't show the data or the little blue arrow to show the link has been created. I even check to see if I had accidently left the cell writing as white!
I am using Internet Explorer for Smartsheet

That's weird!
Have you tried to do it thru Paste Special instead? If you can, I would recommend trying it in another browser.
If you haven’t already, I would also recommend that you reach out to the Smartsheet Support Team. Smartsheet Support Team

Hi,
Ive tried this on Google Chrome and it seems to have worked. Ive logged back in to Smartsheet on Internet Explorer and can see the Links are still there. So maybe is a browser issue with this.
-
We're getting closer to a solution!
Do you use any add-ons/plugins in Internet Explorer?

I just experienced this same issue using Internet Explorer 11. It worked for two links, and then stopped working. When I tried it in Chrome, it started working again. Now I will have to make sure my entire team has access to Chrome, as IE is the default browser for the firm. Please fix!

Hi there,
I couldn't find the post that had the same issue with linking cells-
I will post it here, maybe this will help someone.
I had an issue with only 1 column while linking cells. The rest of the columns were linked and working fine except for 1. this was happening cause the column properties were set as 'dependencies enabled'. I removed that option and the links worked with no issues.
I hope this helps.
