Is there anyway to stop the sheet from expanding all children every time someone goes into the sheet?
Annoying is all. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Each sheet should retain its last saved state. It might be that someone is expanding them all to see some data and then not collapsing them again before they're done.
A quick tip for collapsing them all: Right-click on the Primary Tasks Column header and choose Collapse All to quickly collapse the entire sheet.
Also... If there are any filters in use such as "Current User", it will "Expand All".
Yes we do have filters set up, which I assumed that's what was causing it. No the people going into it are not expanding all. I was hoping for an easy solution, so that when we have the sheet pulled up in a meeting, that's not happening over and over.
Have you considered using reports to aggregate your data and server it to your teams? You could then remove the filters altogether? Reports are like aggregated lists of data similar to filters, changes you make in a report are reflected in the main sheet once you save it. Might be a good solution if maintaining the collapsed state is important.
It's just baloney that staying collapsed is not an optional setting. I've asked for this for 3 years.....we use child rows as employees of the parent row. I dont want to see them unless I want to see them. Come on SmartSheet.....fix this.
Every online project management tool I know of has the capability to expand/collapse at any level of hierarchy and frustrated with Smartsheet not having this basic feature. Would like to request Smartsheet product/dev team to please look into this and address. We are having user adoption challenges with features like this not available in Smartsheet.

Hi All, Does anyone know if this is on SS roadmap to fix. I am having the same issue. Mike Wilday - the difference with report vs filter - filters allow for the parent row to be visible so there is context on a task. As an example, if I filter by "current user" make some changes (like adding a comment to a note field) then I turn off the filter and to my disappointment, every task in the plan is expanded. prior to using the filter, some tasks/sections of the plan were collapsed. why wouldn't the system remember the unfiltered state?
Hello SmartSheet. I see this item has been open for a couple years now and some sheets still have this problem. I have a task manager sheet I made for myself that will automatically expand everything every time it auto saves. It's a real pain because I have so many items on this sheet. I'm constantly collapsing and looking for my info again and again. This sheet also will occasionally assign a highlight and bold text to a new line which I have to constantly go back and fix. I've asked Andree Stara to look into this but he hasn't been able to fix it. Personally, I think it's an occasional glitch in certain sheets, not something that happens in all of them. It would be nice if it could be cleaned up.
Posting to add how great it would be for this to be improved! It's a constant disruption and annoyance at this point in my workflow. I just submitted an enhancement request as was instructed above.
I agree it would be great to be able to set sheets to have all children row's collapsed or set ones. Is this still not an option?
+1
I have a monthly report I send out that has a long list of recipients. I know I can edit the recurrence of it being sent, but does anyone know of an easy way to just add or take out people that get my email without having to recreate the whole thing?
We would like to allow conference attendees to check themselves in using tablets at the conference center. I know there is a "find in sheet" magnifying glass in table view, but it is not super obvious, especially for non-Smartsheet users. Is there a better way for them to easily find their row among all the attendees so…
Greetings- I have a automation setup when I select the "status" column drop-down to "completed" I want the row info to be emailed to the contact to submitted it with a follow up then I want it to archive the row (aka move to another sheet). When I run the automation only 1 of the 2 requests happen. The archive happens…
