How do I highlight columns on a gnatt chart

Please could someone help me with highlighting columns on a resourcing sheet I have just created.

I have the data on the rows and need to show when people are absent during the month by highlighting it.

Take a close look at Conditional Formatting on the tool bar and use the colour choices to turn your Gantt bars into a more clourful display. The only thing you cannot change is the colour of the Parent Gantt bar, which remains Grey.

We humans respond well to colour for absorbing complex data!

Yes it does but make sure you run the rules in the right order so you get the outcome you seek.
