Reports

I am currently running reports which summarise an individual's outstanding actions across different smartsheets. The idea is that they can update the report rather than having to look at multiple reports however when trying to add in comments they cant - am I correct in thinking that they can only add comments for people that the report is shared with?

Are you using the comment function or is it a column dedicated for comments? Can the users edit other cells in the report?

Its the comment section rather than a column. Trying to @ someone and will only come up with the people the report has been shared with?

User can edit other cells its just purely the commenting we are having issues with.

You may not have shared all of the source sheets with that person.A report doesn't give access to sheets that haven't already been shared to a user.

Ok.

Are the users you're trying to @mention shared to the sheet that the report is showing?

If I remember correctly, you'll see the people shared with the report and the people on the account.

Required Permissions and Sharing Levels

Anyone with access to the sheet will be able to view or print comments.

Other actions with comments require additional permissions:

To create or reply to a comment, you must be the sheet Owner or have Editor- or Admin-level sharing permissions to the sheet.
You can edit or delete any comment that you create.
The sheet Owner or anyone with Admin-level sharing permissions to the sheet can delete any comment or comment thread.

IMPORTANT: If you @mention someone who isn't shared to the sheet—and you are the Owner, or have Admin or Editor - Can Share permissions, you'll be prompted to share the sheet, and grant appropriate permissions to them so that they can have access to the comment. (More information on Sharing Permission Levels.)

So the sheet is shared with all the contacts, the report is only shared by myself (creator and licensed user) and one other person. We can only comment to each other via the report - noone else?

Very confused as can comment in the Sheet to everyone just not the report?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Happy to help!

You can comment to users that are shared to the report and those that are part of your account. Unfortunately, as far as I know, you can't comment to users shared to the underlining sheets without adding them to the report either thru @mention or sharing the report.

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.
