Tableau and SmartSheet - Can't add string and string values
I've enountered an odd error in Tableau while accessing a SmartSheet via the Live Data Connector.
In Tableau, I'm attempting to concatenate a SmartSheet string field with a string contant:
* [Primary Column] + "A" (where Primary Column is defined to be a string).
When I do this accessing the data with the SmartSheet Live Data Connector, Tableau issues an error in the caluculated field editor, "Can't add string and string values".
When I do this accessing the data via an excel spreadsheet created by exporting the SmartSheet sheet, then everyting works fine.
Any ideas why I'm having these issues?
Thanks.

Hi Kevin,
I would suggest sending an email to us at api@smartsheet.com on this one. This is a slightly more advanced question on the driver and may require some research and troubleshooting to get you moving.
Thanks!
Joseph

HI,
No this has been addressed a few times but I have not received any answers yet. I opted to create two strings and placed them next to each other in the tooltip as this is what I needed.

Hi Daniel,
Were you able to reach out to our API team as per my previous comment?
Just wanting to clarify whether they were able to provide an answer or not.

Hello fellow users,
I had this issue, couldn't find a solution, and had to have a solution within the day.
After some time thinking about the constraints, I developed this solution.
Force your dimension to be an attribute, then force to a string. The datatype coming into Tableau from Smartsheet is not quite right (I really do not know why), but this will force the dimension into the appropriate data type to concatenate.
Example for concatenating [Param1] and [Param2]:
STR( ATTR( [Param1] ) ) + STR( ATTR( [Param2] ) )Best of luck,
David
