auto completion date

Hello, fairly new to Smartsheet and I have a question.  We have a sheet for PO requests and one of the columns is for "Status" , it has several options from a drop down menu.  What I would like is for our "Completion Date" column to automatically show the date when a status is changed to "Complete".  I don't care about any other status options.  Is it possible to assign a date?

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the Community and the wonderful world of Smartsheet!

Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment to store a date automatically, but it's a great idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

Two possible workarounds could be to either use the Automations and lock the row, and then the date would be stored, but if you change anything, it would update or to use a third-party service like Zapier.

What do you think? Would any of those methods work?

Hi, thanks for the response.  I know enough about Smartsheet to be dangerous.  I looked in our Automations and it already has a lock row feature, but I don't see anywhere that it sets a date for that.

We have a Date Need By column, this is chosen manually by the requestor. We also have a Date Submitted column that appears to be automatic because it lists a time as well.

You'd use the System column, Modified and that would show the date when the row got locked if nothing else has changed in the row.

Hi, sorry to bother you, but I have a question.  Yesterday, I set up an "Auto Number/System" column and it showed a date and an aging column that generated a number to show the difference from the Need By date to the Completion Date.  After sometime, the auto #/system formula and aging # disappeared.  I set it up again this morning, and it worked for a bit, then it disappeared again.

Any ideas why it is doing this?
