Internal links not working

I have an issue (that probably got addressed but I couldn't find that Undecided). If I add a link to my sheet that points to a local document, I can't click on it. It would be all good if I could copy the link itself and use it in a file explorer but that doesnt even work.

Any solution?

Thanks!

Étienne

  • Hi Etienne-- It's not currently possible to link to local files in Smartsheet but this is something that other users have expressed interest in and I'll add your vote for it as well!

I don't think that will work.

Local drives are ... local. You'll need to have some way for other users to access your drive and folders. You'll need to have that drive and folder exposed to the Internet.

If you are going to do that, you would be better of putting into cloud storage like Dropbox, OneDrive, etc..

If you don't want others to collaborate on the document, then putting it into Smartsheet seems less than optimal.

It is easy to drag and drop the file into Smartsheet and you likely have enough space.

  • We are currently setting up the servers to host the files but we wanted to have links towards the spot where they are currently saved. Everyone has access to those since they are on the server of the company.

I know it's currently not possible but could you at least add the ability to copy the file address from the link list?

    I can't (I don't work for Smartsheet)

Could you try copying the file location to a cell instead of as an attachment?

  • Haha, I know you can't Laughing ... I was asking Kennedy!

You can add the file location inside a cell but it does not act as a link and we found out people don't really realise it is there... They have trouble using it this way...
