I can't add a column of numbers.  

I've entered =SUM([Amount]

:[Amount])

 

Keep receiving UNPARSEABLE error.

Is this incorrect?

Have you check the capitalization of the column name?

I'm not sure I understand your answer.

Should Amount be capiatalizaed?

Also if you will notice the column and cell don't appear to be lining up for some reason.

The capitalization of the column reference in the formula should be the same as the capitalization for the column name you are referencing.  I coppied your formula in the post and as long as my capialization was matched it worked for me. 

 

The column alignment does look interesting (do you have the browser zoomed in or out)

Bryan,

My browser was zoomed in causing the columns and cells not to align.

Interestingly enough when I zoomed out causing the cells and columns to align the formula worked.

Just a note - if your column header contains a single word, brackets are not necessary. You could type out the formula like this:

 

=SUM(Amount:Amount)
