Creating multiple ranges without formula
I have inherited PMO reposinsibility for a large program in Smartsheets. I am going through the process of linking the various schedules, finance/risk/issues registers and other sheets for about 15 projects, all of which link into sub-programs and then up to the overall program.
Is there any way that I can go into an individual sheet, select a column and then name it as "range x"?
I am needing to create a number of INDEX/MATCH statements to bring various data into different sheets and it is very tedious having to do this sheet by sheet in the target sheet.
It would be so much simpler to just create all the ranges and then just type out the formulas, rather than needing to start the formula, wait for the reference window to load the source sheet, find and select the column/s for the range, rename the range for the INDEX range, then do it again for the MATCH range.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi Kyle,
Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment, but it's an excellent idea!

I agree with Andree. Excellent idea. I've run into instances a few times myself where this would be rather useful.

Any chance this has been added in or is in production? This is a serious inconvenience and one of the few things I think Excel does better than Smartsheet in being able to name ranges for universal usage.

You may already know this but...
There is a way to see all the references a sheet uses and also have the ability to duplicate them...
It is a bit annoying and also hidden... I stumbled across it
If you have a cell that uses a reference in a formula already
- Click on one cell to make it active.. not the column.. the cell. (Works for a cell formula as well as a column formula)
- Right-click and you can see "Manage References"
- From here you can modify, rename, and duplicate..
- If you use it along with text editor to make notes of what the named ranges are then you can actually be fairly quick with coding.. I made a series of INDEX-MATCH formulas to lookup data from another table
I would recommend doing when you are sharp as it can make your brain hurt

@bcwilson.ca Yes. That is a relatively new feature. I saw a release about it but haven't had the opportunity to dig in yet.
