Report Uncompleted Tasks when Date is not Used as a Reference
Greetings!
New (very green) customer working through a ton of issues and plans before go-live on Jan 1.
We are using SmartSheet for simple workflow processes that contain multiple tasks with some dependencies and involving several different departments. We do not create deadlines based on dates, rather, when a particular task is completed, a rep from the department checks a box on a "Done" column. It will be up to my department to send messages to others via Automated Workflow that their task is "up to bat" and via Reports that there are tasks that are ready for completion and undone.
I'm trying to create a report that details all the uncompleted tasks by simply listing the rows where that Done column is unchecked. However, I'm also getting those rows where a task isn't truly "due" since it may be dependent on a prior task that isn't done yet.
So for example, Task 3 is not checked in the Done column, and tasks 4 and 5 are dependent on 3 being completed before they can be acted on. So I want row 3 on this report, but not Rows 4 and 5.
Any conditions I can write to avoid these indented Rows?
Thanks folks.
looking forward to lots of support from this group, and (eventually) contributing a little advice myself.

Hi Michael,
Welcome to the Community and the wonderful world of Smartsheet!
Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@getdone.se)
Hope that helps!
Have a fantastic day!
Best,

Thanks for the reply, Andree.
This is a simple example workflow for onboarding a new employee. Various teams check off the "Done" column as they complete their respective steps. The report currently just looks for rows where the Done column is unchecked, so in this example, lines 2-16 would all end up on the report when lines 5-11 really aren't expected to be done yet. -
Happy to help!
It's a tricky one! I'll get back to you!

How do you decide what's next and what should be included? Is it the hierarchy in the sheet or something else?
