Counting Multiple Activities
I have a sheet that has multiple activities recorded on it. The attached picture has an Activity Name column and Activity Date column. We had a Wellness Session on July 19 and a Perioperative session on July 26th. We will continue having events all year long, so this will not be the only two events on this sheet. Each row is an individual registering for these events.
- I need a count of how many individuals (rows) attended each activity.
- I need a count of the number of activities held.
I know Excel Groups items, and you can count that way. I am not able to figure out how to do this in Smartsheet.
Thanks!

Hello Kathy,
Is there always only one event at a time? And are they always just for one Day?
In this case you could create a new coulumn that returns i.e. "new event", when a value in the [Activity Date] coulumn is not equal to the value above.
Then you can count the "new event"s in this column.
Is this an option?

Hi Kathy,
If possible I would recommend using hierarchy and Parents/Children to group the events and then use formulas to count the rows for each event and then a top-level to count all the groups.
Make sense?
Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@getdone.se)
Hope that helps!
Have a fantastic weekend!

Marcel - I can add another column and have it count the new events. This makes sense so thanks for the feedback.
Andree - Yes, I will check and see how to make these Parents/Children. I understand how this process works. If this is the only way we can count them as a group then I will work towards changing the sheets.
Thanks,
Kathy. -
Happy to help!
That isn't the only way!
You could also set up a section with the different activities and then use a COUNTIF to count them. It could also be placed in the Sheet Summary section. How many unique activities can there be?
Hope that helps!
