Old Filter Options

Matt Dalton

Before the 22nd Sept update, SmartSheet had a simple filter option where you could select multiple values from the column to filter on from a list (where the column was free text, not a combobox).

Does anyone know how to access this behaviour, or was it removed.

It was similar to how the Excel AutoFilter behaviour works.

Thanks,
Matt

    They've moved it.

From the new Filter dialog, you build all the filters for any/all columns as desired in one dialog. Multiple criteria can be applied to the same column.

You are probably looking for the "is one of" criteria.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Craig, thanks for your answer, yes i'm looking for the old simple mode where you just selected the items you wanted to filter from a list.

  • I agree,  is it possible to have that same feature with the new filter system.  It is nice to just go thru and pick what you would like to see

I too am looking for a more simple way to search for information in Smartsheet. I don't need, or want to create a filter for one-off searches of information that I want to access. And I do this often!

Does anyone know if we can still use the old method of search like Craig mentioned above "is one of" criteria?

Having the ability to create a filter is nice, but I would still want the old functionality to use in conjunction with this new feature. Now I spend more time trying to find the information that I could access more quickly before this update.

    Lynn,

Did you try the "is one of" criteria?

Open up the Create New Filter dialog and it is one of the options (criteria) in the middle.

Even in complicated sheets, I probably only have half-dozen different filters I switch back and forth between. Being able to save them will be a time-saver, I think.

  • Hi Craig,

I see the "is one of" criteria option under Create New Filter. But I don't really multiple filters. I have one main filter, then I looked up unique items by quickly filtering from the column heading. It was quicker and less cumbersome.

I am probably using Smartsheet in a different way than others, I use it more like a database. Each search can be unique, so setting up multiple filters is not useful for me.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best,

    Lynn

  • Thanks Craig. The 'is one of' criteria option is what i'm after. Not quite as simple as before but it works.

My usage is much like Lynn's, I don't have the need to save filters as what I'm looking for changes each time.

Previous to the Sept. update, there was a check box to "Hide" specific values using the filter.  I see no way with the current filter feature to do this.

Does anyone know if this feature still exists?

Depending on which column type, it might be different, but try "is not one of" criteria.
