Free Smartsheet Users are not able to use "Send Update Request" feature anymore
I am a licensed user of Smartsheet and created one sheet and shared it with other users (who are basically using the free version, not on a license). Earlier, they used to use the "Send Update Request" feature on the rows that they seek an update from any specific user. Now they see that option greyed out and are unable to use it anymore, since it says it is only available to Licensed users. Has something changed recently? How can I get it to work for free users?

Hi,
Unfortunately, yes. Smartsheet recently made a change that impacts free collaborators and unlicensed users and what they can do.

Depending on your process there might be a workaround.
I hope that helps!
Have a fantastic day!

Thank you for the information Andree. The link helps.
I just want an unlicensed user (who has access to the sheet) to be able to request an update on a specific row (a task/issue in an issue log sheet) from the "Assigned To" contact field. Could you please suggest a workaround that can be implemented to provide this functionality to unlicensed users?
Thanks.

Happy to help!
A possible workaround could be to add a checkbox column, and when the checkbox is checked, it will trigger an automation workflow that would send the update request.
Would that work?

That's even better than what I planned for!
I thought of adding a Date field (say ‘Remind By’) to the sheet. Then setup an Automated Workflow that will automatically send out a Reminder email to the ‘Assigned To’ person, based on the date/time entered in the ‘Remind By’ field by the unlicensed user.
Thanks a lot Andree, you are awesome!
