Calculating resource allocation for week or month view
As the resource view in resource management is only viewable by licensed users, and is in days, I'm interested to hear from other users how they were able to export data to excel and calculate for a week or month view. I've tried to export to excel but only see the grid info, no allocation % applied to dates (resource view). Has anyone figured out how to provide their leaders a week or month view into resource allocation?
I know SS has acquired 10,000ft, but I have an immediately need (and know 10,000 will also be additional cost). I'd like to see how to maximize the current function.
If you have an example excel template please share.
Thanks,
Brandy

Brandy,
You can export the resource view directly to excel.

Hi Brandy,
I think you'll find there are plenty of other threads asking the same question.
This one goes back to 2015 https://community.smartsheet.com/discussion/resource-view-month-or-quarter and remains unresolved which is very frustrating.
The export to Excel isn't overly friendly, limits the export to 12 months only and users cannot alter the view to anything other than a per day view.
Whilst Resource View is helpful, it is very constrained.
I'd suggest you submit a Product Enhancement, but considering nothing has happened in 4 years, don't hold your breath.

Hi Brandy & everyone else,
Have you looked at 10,000ft?
Smartsheet presented some more details about the 10,000ft capabilities at Engage.
Speaking more broadly, with the integration of 10,000ft, Smartsheet customers will benefit from the ability to plan and allocate resources across their projects, optimize resource allocation by function or skill set, track time against forecast, and gain real-time portfolio level visibility into the status of budgets and deliverables.
I hope that helps!
Have a fantastic day!

Thanks Andree,
After watching the video, there is still a significant shortfall with the current Resourcing Tool. Limiting output to 12 months doesn't help our business' long term planning. And the day-by-day approach to displaying resourcing would appear to me to be a IT sector need, not say a Construction Project Management need. I'm amazed that this can't be quickly rectified by Smartsheet.
Even the demonstration on the 10,000ft video you provided indicates a "New Product Launch" over a one month window with multiple staff involved. Our staff each manage multiple projects over 2 years.
I've considered manually setting up gantt charts for each of our projects and allocating staff just so we can forecast out further than 12 months - a very unproductive use of my time considering Smartsheet already can do most of the work.
I'm hoping Smartsheet make some smart changes in the near future.

Happy to help!
I think we will see significant improvements to the resource management capabilities coming from the acquisition of 10,000ft.
Also, Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.
