Random times having trouble updating cells that have drop down menues

At random times, with contact & date formatted cells, it doesnt respond when you type in the cell. The only way to get it to respond is hit the delete button and start typing random characters. the cell will respond after hitting delete and typing the random characters.

Really weird. No pattern. Any ideas?
