Adding people to Groups
Does anyone know why I am getting this message "Cannot add this user to this group"? I created the group, however it is not letting me add everyone I need to.

Until the bug has been fixed, the only way to resolve this is to remove the impacted user account from your My Smartsheet contacts.
When you add the email address into the Group it will then re-add that user back into your contacts.

Could the issue be the security settings?
NOTE: System Admins on Enterprise plans can restrict who can be added to groups such that only people who are in your organization's account are allowed in the group. For more information, see the Security Controls help article.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I'm adding users from the same organization, same domain name, etc. Some are added successfully. Some, I receive the "You cannot add this user to this group." message, but I'm not sure what Smartsheet has against that user.

We're currently looking into this issue. It seems to be happening if the user being added has both of these criteria:
- Does not have a Smartsheet account
- Is a part of "My Contacts"
To resolve this in the meantime, please remove the impacted user account from your Smartsheet contacts.

Is there a workaround for this issue? I have many users l added to my contact list (within the same organization) that do not have a Smartsheet account as they are only receiving reports, that I need to add to a group.... Best!

This isn't expected behaviour so we are looking for a fix, although we don't have an ETA for when this might be.
Other than removing them from your contacts for the time being (and then adding them back after the group has been created), you could share a sheet with the specific email address which would create a Free Collaborator account for them.

Is there an update on this? It was working fine in one project (that finished Feb 28 - Groups built around Sep without a problem). Now a new project starting March 1 and I go to add 2 x "My Contacts" to a group I created and I am now getting an error.
The advice above won't work for me as this is going to have to apply to a host of sheets, reports and dashboards.

Hi .... is this fixed yet? It seems as though the Contacts/Group/Adding names directly into a contact field is not ideally set up. Sometimes just the email address shows, sometimes the person's proper name shows, can't easily add contacts to a group. This area is a great one for some enhancing. :-)

Yes, this issue should be resolved. If you are receiving an error please contact our Support Team, providing them with screen captures of what you're seeing and any relevant email addresses.
