Thank you all in advance for taking a look!

We have created a site servving as consolidatoin point for all our department sheets. We wanted to include a link that would launch an excel stored on a local drive however when we use the widget, it auto populates the field with "http://".  This renders our entry to a local path (C:\Somefolder\Somefile.xls) useless.

So far Smartsheet support says its not supported and trying to redirect using HTML does not work either.

Does anyone know of a workaround using thirdparty Apps?

Thank you all in advance!

  • Hello Victor—you're correct in that there isn't a way to link to the path of a locally stored file, Smartsheet can only attach links that are exposed to the internet.

You may need to consider uploading the file via one of our supported online options, uploading it from your computer (which stores it in Smartsheet on secure Amazon servers), or attaching a link using a URL that's exposed to the internet.
