Resource Management Best Practices and/or Tips
We are beginning to use resource management. I have everything turned on and set up, but am looking for best practices for allocating resources to a project. Here is an example: 5 people are going to attend a 1 hr meeting. I am assuming I enter all five individuals in the assignee column, 1 hr in duration and 100% in % allocation. Is this correct?
What if one person has 5 hours of work to be done in a week. Whenever I enter 5 hours it automatically defaults to one day and removes the 'week' reference. Is this some kind of default setting?
I would be sincerely grateful if anyone could share documentation, or direct me to a training video, that focuses on building resource management into project plan structure.

Hi Christine,
You are correct with your initial meeting schedule.
For your second instance, with the worker spending 5 hours of work on one task that spans over one week, you could achieve this by entering in a number of child rows. Each child row would have a duration of 1 hour and the Start Date would be the next day of the week. Then assign that user to the row with 100% allocation for that day, indicating that they should work for the full 1 hour that day.
The rollup at the top in the Parent row will show you the total time-span (one week), but each child row will show the duration per-day.
Here are some resources that may help you:
