I want to count dates in the colum "Solldatum" that are smaller than today.

I tried it with countif and it worked in Excel in German with the following formula:

=ZÄHLENWENN(A2:A13;"<"&HEUTE()) as Example.

What do I have to do in smarthsheet to get back the number of valid dates (in this example above the value "2")

Try something like this.

=COUNTIF(Solldatum:Solldatum; <TODAY())

The same version but with the below changes for your and others convenience.

=COUNTIF(Solldatum:Solldatum, <TODAY())

Depending on your country you’ll need to exchange the comma to a period and the semi-colon to a comma.
