Restrict editing a cell until other cells are populated

Is this scenario possible:

I have 4 columns in a sheet.

In any given row, data must be entered into the first two columns before the sheet will allow any information to be entered in the cells in the last 2 columns.

As of now, we're are unable to restrict users with editor access to only update certain sections of a sheet.

I feel the best alternative method to this would be to use an Update Request. See more on this here: https://help.smartsheet.com/learning-track/smartsheet-intermediate/update-requests
