What are the capacity limits for the rich text widget?

Is there a limit to the number of characters a rich text widget can contain? The client wants to type information directly into the rich text box instead of using a sheet or form yet doesn't want to lose previous information.

I don’t now the exact limit, but in my test it worked for more than 15 000 characters.
