Dashboard to show % of projects completed on time vs not on time?

Our projects have Due Dates and Completed Dates which I imagine most do. How can I can create a dashboard (pie chart) indicating % of projects that are completed on time and % that don't complete on time? Do I have to create a new "tracking sheet" with just this info on it first as a middle step? Seems like it should be easy enough and a pretty universal question to ask, but haven't determined how Dashboards can do this easily. Probably just overlooking it.
