How can I make a live bar chart based on the status column in a workflow being ticked?

I want to create a bar chart that shows live data from my smartsheet that shows the task on the vertical axis and the stage of completion on the Horizontal axis based on whether this is ticked on the smartsheet. Would this also update automatically on the bar chart when updated in the sheet?

One way I can think of is creating a report consisting of two columns "Task" and "Stage of Completion" and then importing that report into a dashboard using a chart widget. You can switch the axes from the widget as you like. And the dashboard will get updated automatically.
