Set and Retain Date Field Value
Hello all!!
I have a dropdown, single select field named STATUS with values of SUBMITTED and RESOLVED. I also have a date field named RESOLVED DATE. I am trying to automagically set the RESOLVED DATE to the date the user selects the RESOLVED status and then retain that date everyday unless the status is changed to SUBMITTED. I have tried many variations of formulas and additional cells but continue running into #CIRCULAR REFERENCE errors because I am trying to determine if the RESOLVED DATE needs to be set to TODAY().
Please let me know if anyone has any ideas...
Thank you!

This very request has been made by many over the years. There is not currently an easy way to timestamp when a dropdown has been changed.
One way I can think of doing it is by using the automation to copy a row to a new sheet when something get's resolved. Having the new sheet with a system column for creation date, then vlookup or index/match the rows name to the new sheet and return the created date amount.
Would that work for you?

At this year's Engage conference, Smartsheet just announced that this feature is coming soon.
In the meanwhile, please have a look at my post below with a method I developed.

I hope that helps!

Unfortunately, no. It's TBD.
