Editing dropdown values

I have a dropdown with many values that have already been applied to rows. I would like to update the language of the values (ie. correct a typo or add a plural), but when I do so the tags in the row are not updated to the new language/value - they retain the original.

Is there a way to make a change to a value that is then universally updated?

Only way to do it is to update the values in the dropdown list and then do a search/replace on the column to update the values.
