A few more updates to the new report builder
Hi Smartsheet Community,
We’ve received a ton of feedback from you about our recent updates to reports, the report builder, and grouping & summary. We just want to say thank you - your feedback is critical to helping us deliver the best possible capabilities!
Based on your feedback, we’ve made a few changes which you’ll see in the product now (they were released on 12/15/20):
Show full column name on hover in the filter tab
Now when you hover your mouse over a column name in the filter tab, the full column name will show up to the right. This is to help make it easier to see column names:
Show all selected options on hover in filter tab
Now when you hover your mouse over a ‘# selected” box in the filter tab, the selected options will show in a hover to the right.
We are still hard at work trying to address other great enhancements you’ve requested, like print and export for groups, dashboard widget support, and others. We don’t have a specific date identified for when these will be available. Please stay tuned, and again, thank you for all of your feedback!
And please continue to send it our way by filling out the Product Feedback form (available from the menu here in Community).
Cheers,
Madyson

Thanks for the update Madyson! We appreciate the quick response!

Awesome, thanks @Madyson Morris and the rest of the Smartsheet Team! The rapid edit and communication on this is greatly appreciated!

Greatly appreciate the quick turn around!
One more request not related to the new features but in general for reports -- Please allow the Sheet rowId to be displayed in reports. When we create reports out of a project plan that has 1000+ lines, it will be helpful to display the rowId in the source sheet so that the user can navigate to that specific row in the source sheet (If the rowId can be a link that will be even better :-) )

Thanks for the improvement. Please continue with the layout of the builder. As it is now if we have 3 or more conditions it becomes too difficult to actually understand what you do (And/or), and sorting on 3 criterias...something that I could see easily in the past.
It is of course a matter of getting used to, but surely we need further improvement as we no longer get the overview of a simple report, unless one scrolls a lot, and remember and/or's scrolled by...
Furthermore, we need a way to ensure a report is not tampered with by editors of data in reports. The USP of having one URL for all is suddenly high risk of chaos. The risk was there before as well, but more "hidden" behind a button. Now they are in focus and people will 100% guaranteed start tweaking => saves => next user opening the same report may see stuff they shouldn't, or miss out on stuff they should see.

It appears you cannot have a filter for Current User, is that correct?

Hi @ker9
Fortunately, you can.
You can select it in the last options (has...).
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

Love that we can have metrics straight in reports now. But to take full advantage we really need the ability to pull this data into dashboards through the metric widget. Today it only pulls data from sheets.
-
@Andrée Starå - Thanks - I found the "Current User", but when I Publish the report using Access Control-Only available to Users in the owner account and then open the link under a different user name, it continues to show the publisher's view.
(I have two Smartsheet accounts and open in different browser windows, one is incognito.)
This help file seems to indicate that it should show the Current User view:
What am I missing?

Love the new reporting features! One question - I'm finding I cant group by a multi-contact field. Are others finding that?
-
Happy to Help!
I think it has to do with the new report structure isn't fully supported on dashboards yet.

Hi @markkrebs, yes, I am experiencing the same --- "multiple" select contact list fields are not available in the "Group by" option.
Hi @Madyson Morris, please confirm if this issue is on your team's radar. Thanks.

@Madyson Morris, @markkrebs , @Edwina Sampler-Wright - we have also just stumbled on this lack of functionality. We are using reports to track tasks for a department and could eliminate reports for each individual if the new report builder supported grouping by the Assigned To column when it is set to allow multiple contacts. Hoping this gets added soon!
