can automated update requests be sent individually to the recipient rather than in bulk


I have several automated workflows set-up as Request Update from a specific person. Because I'm taking action on several rows at a time that trigger the automation, the individual recipient is receiving these in bulk. Is there a way to force that these only be sent as individual email requests to the recipient so they can take action on each item independently? As it is, because these are sent in bulk they would have to take action on all before the system would allow a "submit" to occur.
