Grouping dates in reports not working as expected

@Vicky Athersmith same thing was happening to me and I discovered that the report was separating tasks that had a 0d duration into a separate "group" even though it had the same start date as other tasks (my sheet is sorted by start date). So, to solve, we had to restructure how we wrote out our durations that previously had a 0d duration in order to get each date to only show up once as a group in the report (we decided to use the SS function after predecessors in our particular case, another option is to assign .5d or .25d durations). Hope this helps!
