Comments on row using Comment vs Cell comments and reading through cell history

Good day Smartsheet community,

I am trying to see how everyone else is managing progress/next steps for each task or action. Are you all using the comments function or do you have a row and just type up comments and right click Cell History when you want to read what has transpired?

Hoping to get best practices.

It depends on the process and if reports/dashboards and more would be used.

I think we've decided to create a column which will be the next steps. It would be a quick narrative of next steps. If there are comments that may be pertinent to the task itself that needs to be reported on the row update, then we would add comment.

Dashboard wise, I just need to report next steps; In this case, this would help.
