Assign a person to a task based on a picklist selection
Hi,
We have a ticketing system that lets the person submitting the ticket select a category.
Hardware, Software, Printer, Networking...
Is there a way via the form or via automation rules to implement
Hardware assign Larry
Software assign Moe
Printer assign Curly?

You'd need to add one so-called helper column for each assignee and collect them to the main Assigned To column. Otherwise, you can't use the form method.
Make sense?

Would it be the same person each time for each category or do you need to rotate it?
Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

Hi,
It would be the same person.
Larry would always get the hardware tickets.
Moe would always get the software. etc.

I can think of three methods.
- Add conditional logic to the form, and then depending on the selection, the assignee would be pre-selected.
- Add a multi IF function formula for each assignee.
- Create a reference table in the same or other sheet and use either a VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH to match the assignee to the category.
Would any of those methods work?

The form method is what i had considered, but have not developed enough experience in the logic functionality to pull it off.
So it would be something like the following branches
IF Hardware then
Default Value for Assigned is Larry.
If Software
Default Value for Assigned is Moe
etc.

This question was answered.
We created a lookup table in a helper sheet that had the mapping columns.
Works fine for a 1:1 situation.
Trying to sort out the situation when the category picklist is multi select, so
Hardware, Software should return Larry, Moe
