Hyperlinking email addresses

Is there a way to link email addresses so that they open to outlook, gmail, etc. using smartsheet? I want to link emails on my sight/dashboard for who to contact about certain areas and that requires the viewer to copy the email and then paste it in their email. I know in other applications you can use mailto:insertemail and that works but i tried that and it did not work. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I emailed support a month ago and SS does not support "Mail To" links within a cell.  There was a work around they showed me using a URL shortner and associating it with the email address. However, I had over 100 emails to do this with and didn't want to use this workaround.

 

I'm voting for your request to add this to the Product Development Feature rollout!

Yes.   It was sent to me as a video so let me know and I can email to you.  

 

Here's the steps...

 

The URL shortner recommended was https://is.gd/  

(I'm sure there are others....)

 

Go to that website and enter this into the field:  mailto:firstname.lastname@email.com  

Obviously, you will enter the actual email address after mailto.

 

Then click "Shorten!".  Copy the URL for the shortened email address.

 

Go to your Smartsheet and on the cell you want to enter the URL, right click and choose Hyperlink.  

In the box that opens, Paste the URL in the Link to URL field.  

Change the display to the person's name and click OK.

 

I tested and when you click on the hyperlinked name it opens up a new email in the email software.  

 

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you both!  I could not figure out how to hyperlink emails in my dashboard either, so I searched the community.  Is.gd worked for me.

+1 for this feature!  Trying to build a CRM in Smartsheet and a direct click would be hugely beneficial.  Will do the short URL workaround in the meantime.

While you're at it ... while you're adding the mailto: link consider adding tel: and sip: also.

I would agree with Jim that, the "tel:" and "sip:" initiators should be included as well. Please add my vote for this one.

Hi Tim!

Cool trick. I did try your steps above. When I press the shortened link in my SS dashboard, it just goes to a blank webpage but does not open up an Outlook email window.  Just curious if others are having the same experience. Thank you!
