Populating dates based on another Smartsheet

Hello,

I have a Master Project Smartsheet that I own and my client wants to have edit access to the lines they own.

I don't want to provide them edit access to the entire "Master" Smartsheet, but would like to provide them edit access to the deliverables and dates that they own to avoid us having two working documents that need to constantly be updated.

I was thinking this could be accomplished by making a duplicate copy of my Master Smartsheet and linking the client dates to my master copy and providing edit access for the client to the duplicate copy (while locking all of my rows in the duplicate).

Is this the best way to approach this, or is there an easier way to provide user-specific edit access to specific rows in a Smartsheet?

To add to Paul's excellent advice/answer.

You could share the sheet but lock all rows that they shouldn't be able to edit.

Since they need to see your items as well, I would second @Andrée Starå's suggestion of just locking the rows on the one sheet. As the owner you will be able to edit them, but they should not be able to.

Do they need to be able to view your rows? If not, you could look into using a report.

Hi Paul - thanks for the reply!

Yes, I would like their 'edit access' copy to mirror my master copy, but my rows will be locked so that they can only update their rows and have the dependencies throughout the sheet auto-populate for them to see.

Ultimately, this will all roll up into a dashboard that I create from the Master copy. The main thing here is to allow them to edit the items they own to eliminate the back and forth between us.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

I had not realized that locked rows can still be edited by myself.

Would I just provide them with Edit access only to prevent them from editing locked rows?
