How to recover deleted items
Hi All,
We had to delete a few Smartsheet users and along with them we accidentally deleted the items they were owners of. How do we restore the items (or even the users, if it's easier)?
I went to my admin account Deleted Items space and it's empty, where can I find the items deleted when I deleted those users?
Thanks in advance!
Alex

The sheets stay with the owner. You will have to add them back and request permission to access the sheet. Once that is done you will want to take ownership of the sheet before deleting users.

Thanks Antonio, how do I add them up? Do you mean I literally manually recreate their account inviting them, etc.?

Hello there - I signed back up to Smartsheet recently using my company's email, but i noticed old employees are still linked to the account, and that sheets "owned" by them can't be removed. Is there a way to fix this, or completely wipe everything and start from scratch? All the data in the account is gone anyways, so hoping to do the latter if easier. Thank you

Hi @PaymonF
If you're a System Admin for your organization, you can Transfer Owned Items from users in your plan to someone else (for example, to yourself). Then you can decide what to do with them from that point.
Here's more information:

Hello @Genevieve P.
Thanks so much for your help! I tried doing this exercise, but unfortunately the users have already been removed, so I'm unable to transfer ownership from them to me.
Is there any way to completely wipe the entire Smartsheet account and start from scratch?

Hi @PaymonF
If the users are no longer a part of your plan, then there won't be a way to control their sheets / delete their account content.
If the sheets are in a shared workspace and you're an Admin on the workspace, then you can delete them yourself. See: Delete a sheet
You can also remove yourself from any sheets that you no longer want to be shared to, by opening the sharing window and clicking the "x" next to your name:
Cheers,
Genevieve
