Template Import Data?
I have a template with only column headings and one column with two conditional formatting rules. However, when I import a spreadsheet into the template it overwrites the template settings. Is it possible to import only data into a Smartsheet template, as in Excel "Get Data/From File/From Workbook"?

Hi @Fredrick J
I hope you're well and safe!
Not sure I follow.
Are you importing an Excel spreadsheet?
Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic day!

Basically, is this Excel functionality available in Smartsheet?
-
No, not like that.
What I usually do in my client solutions. I create what I call an Import sheet to connect with the sheet with the data or placeholders I want to replace.
Would that work/help?

I tried importing a .csv file without the column headings, but Smartsheet considered it a separate spreadsheet. Do you have a generic example of an import sheet?

@Andrée Starå - can you explain in more detail your "import sheet" solution? I have a similar scenario as Fredrick J's. I would like to import only the data from an excel worksheet into a Smartsheet sheet I already have created without having to copy and paste. My already created Smartsheet sheet has additional columns than the Excel worksheet and automation workflows...the reason why I only want the data so I don't have to recreate the additional columns and automation workflows every time I do an import from Excel. Any ideas for a solution would be appreciated!

Hi,
@Andrée Starå - did you find a solution to the above? I have the same issue where I want to import data only, but every time I try, it overrides the column headers and removes all the additional columns / automation etc?
Thanks in advance
Meg
