Attachments to be included in approval workflows

I have an approval workflow where I need to send an attachment, assigned to the row, with the email to the approver. I've included the attachment in the Alert someone action; however, the attachment is not showing up in the email. Is there something I am missing or another action I should be using? Thanks!

Hope you are fine, when you create the notification message in your workflow select this option as per the following screenshot ( and you can add any field to be embedded in your message including attachments and comments ). the following article will help you to Customize the Content of Your Alerts and Requests:

To add to Bassam's excellent advice/answer.

Unfortunately, it's not possible now to include the attachment in an Alert if the added attachment does not trigger it, but it's an excellent idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

Here's a possible workaround or workarounds

• If you use an Update Request instead, the attachment(s) on the row can always be included.

I want to include all attachments that are on the row when the row is changed for anything. But it's not including the attachment. Thoughts?

@Andrée Starå Can you explain more about this? I've set up an automation to request an update, but I don't see an option to include an attachment.

I'm trying to set up a Sheet to support an invoice approval workflow, but Smartsheet's limitations are making it extremely difficult :(
