Workflow Automation - Character Count

I am trying to add a "data validation" to check that a serial # entered has exactly 10 characters (letters or numbers). I saw someone reference using a LEN count, but I do not see a way to use this function in a workflow.

Is this possible?

Yes, but you'd need to add a so-called helper column and then reference it in the Workflow.

That was the exact solution that came to me last night. Thank you for confirming!

Would be nice if Smartsheet would offer some sort of data validation/formula check either in workflows or with the Text/Number column properties for entering unique data.

Blargh. I set up a "helper column" to have a formula and then tried to set up a workflow to change the cell contents if a row was changed/added. Of course it won't let me enter a formula by doing this since it converts it to text.

Submitted yet another enhancement request!
