Is there a way to combine approval responses into one "approval" column?

When someone puts in a request, I am sending an approval to one manager or the other based on a field input by the person creating the request. Ideally, I'd like the approve/decline response to be in the same column, not have to have two separate columns, because the responses are all going to one source after the approval. Does anyone have a way around having separate columns? Thanks.

• Add all options to one column, but they have to be unique.

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried to do separate "save status as" values for both of the approval paths but it won't save for me unless I change the "save response in" value, which would cause me to have the separate approval columns. Attaching some screenshots to help it make sense.
