Default value forms is not working
Hi i have several forms and some of them are not saving the default value. I have deleted the column, created a new one, remade the dropdown column, created the form again and tried to set up a default value. Everything looks ok but when I use the form nothing happens.

Hello i have the same problem "default values is´nt working" when i´ve try to save this goes empty, so check this please.

Are you using conditional logic in the form?
-
No I don´t

I would suggest reaching out to support then since the default value should be saving.

One more thing it saves some columns that have text but if is a number the default value doesn´t save.
Paul How can I contact support directly?

Thanks

I encountered the same issue. I was able to discover the root cause. It is a bug with the software. You cannot select a default value that is a number. See also these threads, which report nearly the same issue:
https://community.smartsheet.com/discussion/88525/default-value-in-smartsheet-form-will-not-save

Smartsheet - in cases like this, it would be extremely helpful if you would publish a list of known bugs with their root cause and planned resolution date so that we can plan accordingly.

@TJ North THANK YOU for this. Just had the same experience. Was driving me bananas. I settled on a patchy-patchy solution adding the word Year to the actual Year designation. Sigh.
Yr. 2022 vs. 2022 It is NOT pretty but it works.

@Paul Newcome I do not believe that I have. I saw that the behavior was reported by someone else on this thread, and that it was mentioned in two other posted that I linked to. That, in addition to never having received a response from other bug or feature requests I've submitted, led me to leave this unreported.
I have worked around this by defaulting ".0." or ".1." as the submission values on my intake form and leveraging automation to update rows with one of these values to 0 or 1, respectively. That approach has managed the data to my needs to date.

The old feature request method has since been replaced, but I would suggest reaching out to support directly to let them know that "something is broken". Reaching out to support directly should generate a response as it is not necessarily just "reporting" something. And even if others have already, it certainly can't hurt to give them a little nudge.

As a workaround, you can pass default values to the form using URL parameters
