fill cell from another cell

i have a spin off of the same question.

column 1=date , column 2=mods number, 3=helper.

Helper= =IF(mods522 = "", "mods empty", IF(date522 <> "", "date empty T", TODAY())).

then i was trying to today's date in Date column from this cell.

i tryied workflow to do this but they did not like it because you had to save and refresh (sometimes twice).

is this possiable?

if i put a mods number in the cell and the date is empty, put todays date in.

i tried to use Today() but what happens is that i come back the next day and the date changed.

i know i could do this in Excel in a macro by assigning todays date as a value then copy this value to a cell.

You could use a Workflow combined with the Record a date Action to register the current date.

Another option could be the method I describe in my post below.
