Can capture date automation update a locked column?

There are multiple users of my sheet who do updates to rows. Part of the updates is updating a status field as the item progresses in its lifecycle.

I have automation on my sheet to capture the date in a "status updated date" column when a status changes on a status field in the row.

If I use the lock column feature on the "status updated date", will the automation be able to write/update to the column or will it be blocked?
