Linking cells and sheets - not updating automatically

I have a tracker set up in which all jobs are listed. From this, i pull certain columns into a metrics sheet. To do this i selected a row cell, then the link symbol and link to another sheet and selected the column i wanted to pull the data in from.

This was great - but it only pulled the data that existed at that time. I expected it to keep pulling data through as i added more to the base tracker

Have i done something wrong or is this function not supported?

Any help or advise would be appreciated

It's not currently possible to link an entire columns using Cell Linking; only cells that contain data, or that previously contained data, can be linked to a destination sheet. See the "note" at the top of this Help Article: Cell Links: Consolidate or Maintain Consistency of Data

Depending on your process, I would suggest using a Report instead. Reports will update as new content is added to the underlying sheet.

If you're using this Metric Sheet to add other columns as well, an alternative would be to set up a cross-sheet formula that brings in information based on a unique identifier in both sheets. Here's another community post that explains how an INDEX(MATCH works.

I think i will try using the report approach for my purposes but will bear in mind the index(match option for other solutions
