Adding parent rows and subtasks with a form submission.
I would like to add subtasks automatically from a form submission. The scenario is, we have requests coming in with a number of details for the overall request (due date, project title, etc) but each request has up to 10 tasks associated with it (but they are always different) - is it possible to have a form automatically create a header row based on part of the info (due date, project title) but then make a subtask for each of the tasks associated with the project? I am trying to prevent someone from submitting the form 10 times as they have been to date.

Hi @cjhoffmeier
I hope you're well and safe!
I developed a solution using two forms (or the same form by using conditional logic) that can be used to submit the main information and then the other information on a new row for each submission after the first.
Would that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

This is an interesting solution, so I set up a form for the first part of the info, and a separate form for the tasks and set the first form to send you to the second one when you submit, and the second one is set to reopen a blank form after each submission - allowing for multiple tasks to be submitted. This produces a result that is so close to what I want - I am just wondering if there is a way to default/automate those task lines to become subtasks so they are associated with the due date. I don't see anything in the automation about indenting a row, or making it a subtask - do you have any insight here?
Thanks!

Hi @cjhoffmeier
There currently isn't a way to automate Hierarchy within a sheet; creating Child rows is set to be a manual process so you would need to identify what rows belong in the pairing and indent them on a case-by-case basis.
Please submit your feedback to the Product team on this by filling in this form, here!
Thanks,
Genevieve

Hi @Roh12
Hierarchy is still currently a manual function in Smartsheet; please feel free to vote and add your voice to the Idea post around this feature in our new Product Ideas area of the Community! The top-voted posts are reviewed monthly by the Product team and they update the status there.
