Need an automation of 'One week before' instead of 'When a date is reached'. Is possible?

Hi, I'm trying to do an automation of alerting a person in the team when the actual date is one week prior to a 'start date' column. I thought this would be super-easy, but frustratingly, smartsheets automation option only allow 'when a date is reached'. I'm surprised they don't run more options eg '7 days before a date is reached'..etc.

Maybe I'm missing something, or is there a work around that can be done at cell level to get an automated alert the week before a start date.

Sounds like you were close!

Create a new automation

trigger: when date is reached
run once, then change the "on" option to "1 week before"
then select your date column

@Steven Evans is there any way to note for the trigger to run on a date not in a week range? That is, you chose "1 week before" but is there a way to tell it to run "X days before" where X = 1 to n? Or are we tied to the specifics in the workflow?
