Connect smartsheet to an older version of PowerBI that uses IE to connect.

I get the browser not supported but I don't have a choice. I am trying to connect Smartsheet to powerBI 2020 version since that's the report server I have.

Power BI released an update in December 2020 to allow Edge to be used (instead of IE 11) with certain connectors, including Smartsheet.

See the section under "December 2020 Power BI release" in this Microsoft article: Enabling Microsoft Edge (Chromium) for OAuth authentication in Power BI Desktop

On your Power BI Desktop machine, you can get WebView2 control either by installing the new Edge (Chromium) browser from https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/download, or by installing the WebView2 redist package.
