Is there no workaround to this issue?  I too need to display header text across several columns.  Can a graphic be used? 

I realize smartsheets is not technically the online version of an excel worksheet, but even your company name implies spreadsheet functionality.  While it is a powerful tool, if it doesn't have basic features like merged cells (or an effective workaround), it makes team collaboration difficult.  if my colleagues can't read the headers, I can't expect them to populate the fields I need filled.

What's even more frustrating is that you have downloadable templates on your website that use merged cells but those templates are not listed within the application itself and when a user attempts to import them into smartsheet, the merged cells disappear.  Why would you include templates on your own website that a user can't utilize within your application?

Then why does the SmartSheet website show an example of merging cells?  This actual template doesn't exist - yes, there is a RACI Template but is not set up in this same fashion.  Frankly, the template does not look as nice as this screenshot example from your website.

If not merge, how about a Text Box?? At least then, we'd be able to drop a block of text that does not fit the given template I've laid-out.

That said, merge would be a really strong feature.

Not being able to merge cells is my biggest frustration....even the ability to add headers that flow across the cells would be helpful.

It's been two years since this post was originally made... do votes really matter?  There are other simple matters that are forcing us to move to something else.  Here is a big one for us:  We do not work the same hours every day.  Simplified, if we work Saturdays for a 1/2 day this causes a big problem with scheduling for us in Smartsheet.  Also, one specific department does not work on Saturday so I keep having to release dependencies and manually manipulating the schedule.  This is very frustrating.
