Is it possible to merge cells?

It is 8/1/18 and we still can't merge cells in Smartsheet.

If your program lacks basic functions such as this one, how can I convince Ownership to stick with your program?

Thanks for the feedback - it does seem frustrating that this has been an ongoing request with no resolution.

Cell merging does seem basic, but Smartsheet is not a flat file like other spreadsheets. Because of the different column types, data types, cell links, and hyperlinks that a cell in Smartsheet can support, we have not found a solution that is easy to implement, keeps the different views offered in sync (Grid, Gantt, Card, Calendar), while still offering the flexibility of the distinct column types.

If there are other concerns we can help address, please let me know.

This is so critical, cant your create a column type of "Header" so that you can identify them and merge them because they are for promoting visual clarity.

I can't believe it's near the end of 2018 and the merge cells function is still not available for SmartSheet. I just got an account today, but I guess I will be going back to Excel for my project.

I also vote for cell merge capabilities and the freeze option for rows not just columns.

Ditto. Frustrating to download the templates provided by Smartsheet, only to find they lose key formatting (like merge cell!) when brought into smartsheet.
