Is it possible to merge cells?

Good morning. 

I know that we are not behind the scenes, so understanding how to make this happen may seem simple to some of us, but in actuality could be extremely difficult, especially when you take into consideration the functionality of the primary column.  If this can be added I think it would be a great addition, but I would not want to sacrifice the other functions for this aesthetic display.

adding vote to merge cells. how does a spreadsheet software not allow this functionality? Also would like to freeze rows..... guess I'll find the thread for that vote too -__-

Merge functionality should be available in a thread that hes been requesting it since June 2015. This is a need to have, not a nice to have.
