Remove checkbox on select rows
I was exploring some Smartsheet templates and found a unique feature in the below template set.
In the sheet they were able to remove checkboxes in the "Done" column by typing anything other than a 1 or 0 in that cell.
I tried to replicate this behavior in my own sheets and was unable to do so. When I type anything into the checkbox cell on my sheets the text remains. I checked the conditional formatting and there is also no rule that is re-coloring the text either.
Any idea how this was accomplished and if it can be used outside of this template?

@Tomasz Giba - that is a solution, but I'm curious how they managed to auto remove anything that wasn't a 1 or 0.

They were not! They just used the same font color as cell background color.
Double click and you will se a dash typed into cell, or click cell and change font color.

Ah, good catch! When I was adding in new rows it was auto-formatting the cells so I didn't catch this in my testing. Kind of bummed, I was hoping there was a way to turn off checkboxes at a cell/row level.
