Finish Date not available for 2way connection in Jira Connector

I am looking to have 2-way sync between SmartSheet and Jira. I'd like to leverage the Start and Finish dates in SmartSheet as "projected start/finish" dates, and connect over to custom fields in Jira. They are not "actual" dates, just projected. There is no system-automation on the Jira side for these custom fields.

It appears I can use Start (in SmartSheet) for a 2-way connection.

I can use Finish (in SmartSheet) as a 1-way push from SmartSheet into Jira, but not a two-way connection.

This issue is resolved if I remove "dependencies enabled" in SmartSheet. Why is this the case? With dependencies, wouldn't it also affect start date? Why am I allowed to have 2-way sync with start but not finish?

You cannot map the Duration or End Date columns in the Jira Connector as 2-way sync columns if you have Dependencies enabled in your Project Settings in Smartsheet, as you've found.

This is because the End Date in Smartsheet is a calculated value based on Start Date and Duration (or the Duration is calculated by the Start and End Dates).

While you can map the Start Date column both ways, keep in mind that if Jira updates the Start Date column it will then remove any Predecessor relationships you have for this row. This is the same behaviour as if you manually updated the Start Date for a row with Predecessors.

You could set up two regular Date columns that aren't linked to your Project Settings as the fields to map back and forth 2-ways, or disabled dependencies for this sheet.

@Genevieve P. Thank you for the response, but I'm still not understanding. What is the issue with having Jira push the Finish Date from Jira to SmartSheet, then having SmartSheet update the Duration? This is the same as if I manually update the Finish Date directly in SmartSheet.

The End Date field has certain restrictions when it's used with Dependencies. For example, you cannot put a formula in that column. Jira automatically updating those columns is one of the other current restrictions, you will need to update the field manually in Smartsheet.
